I recently had a conversation with a client who contacted me about doing a boudoir session but she had some reservations. She said she was overweight and trying to lose but it just wasn't coming off. She said I want to do this for my husband because even though I don't like looking in the mirror he loves me just the way I am. *Sometimes it is hard for us to accept the way we look and we forget that those who love us, love us no matter what we look like on the outside.*
So, we started talking about how a typical session unfolds and then I asked her if she had seen the images on my boudoir page. I went on to tell her about some of the women on that page. There are women who we perceive as having the perfect body, a body that she and I (both curvy girls) would love to have, and do you know that even those women have body issues? It wasn't until they saw their photos that they understood what everyone else saw. They are beautiful. I then went on to tell her about the women on the other end of the spectrum. Women who most of the world sees as overweight and while they aren't entirely happy with their body, they still had the courage to do a boudoir session and they too discovered how beautiful they are.
We all have something we don't like about our image but I would be willing to bet there is at least one thing you love about your body. Maybe it's your eyes, hair, smile, boobs, butt, legs, heck maybe it's your feet. If there is one thing you love then you can build on that one thing. During your session we can accent that one part or two parts or however many parts there are that you love. On the flip side, we can stay away from the part or parts that you don't like so much. In studying posing techniques, I have learned all of the little tricks to showing off what you love and hiding what you don't.
Keep in mind that just because you are doing boudoir doesn't mean you have to get down to your undies. If you feel sexy in your old jeans and over-sized sweater, or a tank top and boy shorts, or even that little black dress you don't get to wear often enough, then we can do a session around any of those. What you wear makes you feel sexy but how you act in those clothes is what makes you look sexy. And if it makes you feel better, you can always do a glamour session instead...keep your clothes on, keep it fun and still feel beautiful, confident and sexy!
Boudoir photos are not for everyone but anyone can do a session and love what they see as the result. Who knows, maybe once you do a session you will look in the mirror and love what you see, just the way you are.
